Sherni/Gilden: Posters for Senior Fashion Collection

Skills used: Photoshop, Visual Communications, Creative Design

April 2026

My friend’s final fashion collection at UW-Madison was selected for the Spring fashion show hosted by The Issue, a student organization. Originally titled Gilden and later renamed Sherni, the collection was inspired by her pride in her identity as an Indian female fashion designer.

As the team’s graphic designer, my task was to create a poster advertising her collection for the show.

The collection’s core identity centered on being bold yet elegant, later reflected in the name Sherni, meaning “Tigress” in Hindi. To capture this aesthetic, I combined bold colors and typefaces with the elegant floral pattern featured on her pieces to create two poster designs.

Ultimately, she selected the second design, which was featured on The Issue’s Instagram and printed posters around campus to advertise the show.

Overall, the process went well, and my friend loved both designs, feeling they captured her intended aesthetic. Working closely with her allowed me to incorporate valuable feedback throughout the process. If I could change anything, I would incorporate some of the more advanced graphic design techniques I used in the first design into the second. While my friend preferred the second design’s simplicity, I would challenge myself to explore different techniques to achieve the same aesthetic.
